Quiz on Thursday March 5
Let's have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday, March 5. For Arabic 402, it will be on Al-Mufradat from both chapters 3&4. For Arabic 504, it will be on Al-Mufradat from chapter 13. This will help prepare you for your midterm on the 10th.
Good to know Arabic :)
A disappointed salesman of Coca Cola returns from his Middle East assignment.
A friend asked, "Why weren't you successful with the Arabs"
The salesman explained, "When I got posted in the Middle East , I was very confident that I would make a good sales pitch as Cola is virtually unknown there.
But, I had a problem I didn't speak Arabic. So, I planned to convey the message through three posters...
First poster - A man lying in the hot desert sand...totally exhausted and fainting.
Second poster - man is drinking our Cola.
Third poster- Our man is now totally refreshed.
Then these posters were pasted all over the place
"That should have worked," said the friend.
The salesman replied "I didn't realize that Arabs read from right to left"

I'm sorry !
A'izza'ee Al-Tullaab,
I regret to cancel class today, Thursday 2/12, but my sinus infection has taken a turn for the worse, and I'm beginning to run a fever. I have an appointment to see the doctor at 1:00.
402 class:
Please continue with the rest of the chapter on your own, and view the material on the DVD. When I come back, we will hopefully have an easy time with the material and not have to spend too much time on it because it will be familiar.
504 class:
Listen to both Al-Qissa (Tamreen 6)and Al-Istimaa'(Tamreen 16)and do both Tamreen 18 and 19, so that we go over them quickly in class (They're both a review).
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

A'izzaa'ee Al-Tullaab,
Don't forget to practice going back and forth with your Mufradaat from Arabic to English and from English to Arabic. Review All vocab from the chapter, and not just the list on the first page.

The International Research Opportunities Program
IROP, the International Research Opportunities Program, provides full support—travel, board, and research expenses—for students who want to learn about another country while pursuing a project—research, scholarly, or creative−abroad during the summer between their junior and senior years. The experience and the benefits for these students are truly exceptional.
The next IROP deadline is April 7, when sophomores who want an IROP grant for the summer of 2010 may submit proposals. Students should know this is the “early decision” deadline, a time when there’s less competitive than in the fall, and plan accordingly. On line at http://www.unh.edu/undergrad-research/irop.html they can find the application and lots of information about writing a successful one.
